choose a current issue, trend, phenomenon, etc. in contemporary East Asian popular culture to focus on, tracing the roots of the issue, trend, phenomenon, etc. to establish a broader context. How did it effect the culture throughout the rest of the surrounding countries and even globally?
Your conclusions must then be presented in your own words in the form of a short “memo†and a 5 minute in-class presentation. In the spirit of memo writing, you will be asked not only to be deeply familiar with the issue but also be able to summarize it succinctly.
For the memo: You can use any sources from the course and on the internet to develop a comprehensive understanding of the issue at hand but it must be presented in your own words; you will write up 2 page “memo†(single-spaced)and 5-7 minute in-class presentation. In the spirit of memo writing, you will be asked not only to be deeply familiar with the issue but also be able to summarize it succinctly. Your memo and presentation should also have a clear argument.
Your memo may go on to a third page only for the purpose of citing sources and adding charts, graphs, appendices, etc. Feel free to use bullet points and your choice of fonts, margins, and other formatting options. For the presentations, you may use Powerpoint or some other presentation software, images, video, and other multimedia.
